MEDIA ADVISORY Florida MEP Partners with Nautical Structures to Deliver Innovative Job Training Program
Open House on January 18 Showcases High-Tech Mobile Training
ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Florida MEP) in conjunction with Nautical Structures Industries (NSI) will host an open house for members of the media to showcase an innovative job skills training program that is helping NSI expand its workforce. The open house will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the Science Center of Pinellas, where Florida MEP’s high-tech mobile facility currently is training unemployed workers for jobs at NSI.
The Mobile Outreach Skills Training (M.O.S.T. ®) program is a fast-track, intensive skills training, recruitment, assessment and placement program that prepares unemployed workers for manufacturing jobs. Training is conducted aboard a state-of-the-art mobile training facility that currently is stationed by Florida MEP at the Science Center of Pinellas.
“The M.O.S.T.® program developed out of a paradox that faces Florida’s manufacturing community. At a time of high unemployment, many manufacturers find their ability to grow limited by a shortage of skilled workers. M.O.S.T.® is designed to address this obstacle by rapidly training unemployed workers for front-line production jobs,” said Richard Peck, chair of the Florida MEP Board of Directors.
WorkNet Pinellas partnered with Florida MEP to help identify the candidates participating in the M.O.S.T.® training. Following successful completion of the program, the graduates will all receive full-time employment with NSI.
